Missisquoi Table 01

The Missisquoi Table was exhibited at the Gladstone Hotel as part of 'Come Up To My Room' in an whimsical immersive installation of suspended reeds, during Toronto Design Offsite Festival. The experimental event was reason to research and to dig into one aspect that makes my practice unique: geography. Situated on a wooded 7 acres lot bordered by the Missisquoi River, the studio's East-Bolton location is the heart of this installation.

The table is an asymmetrical two part piece, with a space that divides it as the river divides the valley. The black ash wood was felled, milled and dried in the area, and the stone is from the river's banks. The stone and plank that support the two parts form a continuous axis end to end, through the divide. The beauty of the brutalist natural stone, contrasts and converses with the delicate craftsmanship of the wood plateau.
